Daksh Puri on Colors TV Debut in Shayad Yahi Hai Pyaar
Daksh Puri opens up about playing Aarav in Colors TV’s Shayad Yahi Hai Pyaar, adapting Something in the Rain, and his journey from football to TV.

Daksh Puri is the new face viewers are watching on Colors TV. He makes his acting debut as Aarav in Shayad Yahi Hai Pyaar, the Dice Media production adapted from the Korean drama Something in the Rain.
In an exclusive conversation with IWMBuzz, Puri spoke about how the role came to him and what he wants to learn as a first-time lead.
From national-level football to a television set
Puri did not grow up planning to be on screen. He played football at the national level and hoped to build a career in sport. His mother had represented India as hockey captain, so a sporting path felt natural at home.
When that plan changed, performance still pulled him. He trained as a dancer with Shiamak Davar and had already moved through advertising before acting found him. For a debut lead, that mix of sport, dance and camera experience is useful: it gives him the discipline of an athlete and the expression of a performer.
Here is a quick look at the debutant’s journey:
- Played football at the national level before acting
- Mother represented India as hockey captain
- Trained as a dancer with Shiamak Davar
- Cast by Reema Gupta after multiple auditions and screen tests
Why the Korean original mattered to him
Casting director Reema Gupta reached out to him for Aarav. Puri was drawn in when he heard the show was an adaptation of Something in the Rain. He told IWMBuzz, “I’ve always been drawn to K-drama storytelling—it’s raw, subtle, and deeply emotional.”
For Indian viewers, the title carries instant recognition. Something in the Rain is known for its quiet, character-driven romance, and remaking it for Hindi television means the actors have to carry the pauses as much as the dialogues.
After multiple rounds of auditions and screen tests, being locked as the lead was a stoked moment. It also brought responsibility. Because the original performances have global reach, Puri wanted to avoid imitation and stay true to his own understanding of Aarav.
First meeting with Aditi Dev Sharma
His first meeting with co-star Aditi Dev Sharma was nerve-wracking. Puri said he was hyper-aware of her experience and felt he had completely bombed the first mock test because he was so conscious of her presence.
The real icebreaker came while shooting the promos, when the two connected over their shared love for food. That off-screen comfort helped the on-screen bond between Aarav and Preeti feel natural.
Aarav and Preeti as puzzle pieces
Puri describes the central relationship as two missing pieces of a puzzle. “Aarav and Preeti are like the last two missing pieces of a puzzle—when they come together, the entire picture finally makes sense,” he said.
He hopes viewers take away warmth and hope from the story, and that unconditional love can find a way even when the odds are stacked against it.
What he wants from his acting
The learning curve is steep for a debut lead. Puri says he approaches his craft like an athlete, and he wants to refine dialogue delivery, emotional continuity and technique while keeping his performance spontaneous.
His ultimate goal is to stop overthinking. “I want to learn how not to overthink a scene, but to trust the present moment and simply be the character,” he added.
