Kanwar Dhillon Previews New Shut Up Sachin Gag Segment

Kanwar Dhillon explains why the new Shut Up Sachin segment on Udne Ki Aasha gives fans a reason to stay till the end of each episode.

Kanwar Dhillon on Shut Up Sachin's daily comic bit

Fans of Udne Ki Aasha have a new reason to sit through the closing moments of every episode. Star Plus has introduced Shut Up Sachin, a segment that brings the lighter, joke-cracking version of Sachin Deshmukh back to the screen.

The daily bit is built around humour, and Kanwar Dhillon, who plays Sachin, says the team is using it to try things they would not normally do in the main story. Some snippets are improvised on set, and a couple have even been shot without a script when an idea landed in the moment.

"These humorous bits are something we really enjoy shooting, and it’s something that resonates with me in my personal life as well," Kanwar says. "I am Sachin Deshmukh, so when this concept came up, I instantly said yes to it."

The running gag behind Shut Up Sachin

Kanwar says the segment reminded him of a format from the past called Bakwas Band Kar, which was full of PJs. The Shut Up Sachin idea works the same way: Sachin cracks a joke, and a family member or someone else in the scene tells him, "Shut up, Sachin."

For the actor, that is the point. Sachin has changed as the Udne Ki Aasha storyline has moved forward, but his funny and straightforward personality has stayed. The segment gives viewers a chance to reconnect with that side of the character without waiting for the plot to create room for it.

Why the end-of-episode slot matters

Placing the gag at the end of each episode turns it into a ritual. No matter how heavy or serious the main track is, viewers know there will be a light moment waiting before the episode closes. That is a simple habit loop: the episode builds tension, and the segment releases it.

"Every day, at the end of the episode, no matter what is going on in the story, they will get to see the fun side of Sachin. I’m sure people are going to look forward to these gags every day because they are funny and relatable."

For JioHotstar audiences, that also means the segment is available on streaming, not just in the linear telecast. So fans who catch up later can still get the same daily punchline.

  • Daily placement: The segment runs after the main story, every episode.
  • Improvised feel: Some snippets are created on the spot, without a script.
  • Returning character beat: It revives Sachin’s joker-like side from the show’s earlier days.
  • Where to watch: The gags can also be streamed on JioHotstar.

Kanwar’s only question now is how fans will take it. "I can’t wait to watch people’s reactions and see how they like it," he says. "We’re having a lot of fun making it, and hopefully the audience will have just as much fun watching it."

For Udne Ki Aasha fans, the promise is clear: even the most tense episode can end with a joke.
