After 4 Years as Prarthana, Indraxi’s Sohni Is Not a Jassi Remake

Indraxi Kanjilal returns in Dangal TV's Sohni – Aur Nahi Koi Honi and responds to Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin comparisons: nostalgia yes, remake no.

Indraxi's Sohni Is Not a Jassi Remake

Indraxi Kanjilal is back on television, and this time she is stepping into a look that many fans believe they have seen before. After spending 4 years as Prarthana in Pushpa Impossible, the actor now leads Dangal TV’s new offering, Sohni – Aur Nahi Koi Honi, produced by DJ’s A Creative Unit.

The show has been drawing comparisons to the iconic Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin, and there is an obvious reason: both shows come from the same production house, and Sohni’s appearance carries more than a passing echo of the classic. But Indraxi wants viewers to pause before they call it a reboot.

A nod to the past, not a repeat

Speaking to IWMBuzz, the actor acknowledged the shared resonance. She grew up a fan of Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin, she said, so playing a character with a subtle homage to that era feels “surreal and deeply gratifying.” But she was clear about the line.

“I wouldn’t call it a modern remake,” Indraxi said. “Sohni is her own person.”

In her view, the familiar look is a tribute to the classic, while the storyline, character arcs and world have been written for today’s audience.

What is different about Sohni

Indraxi says the shift from Prarthana to Sohni has been a significant one. Her previous role was layered and lived in a grey zone, while Sohni is far more direct.

  • The character: Sohni is positive, vulnerable and a little underconfident, but eager for what life brings.
  • The look: Oversized glasses and visible teeth carry a deliberate nod to the classic Jassi era.
  • The message: The show focuses on inner beauty, heart and authenticity over surface-level glamour.

Why the inner-beauty angle matters now

Indraxi says she never saw Sohni as “ugly” when she first faced the mirror in full costume and makeup. What stood out to her was how pure the character’s heart is. The show’s message, she believes, is especially relevant in a digital age where people are judged quickly and consumed surface-first.

The familiarity cuts both ways. A nostalgic look can pull in loyal fans of the classic, but it can also set expectations that the new story never meant to carry. Indraxi is asking viewers to give Sohni room to become her own character.
