Bigg Boss South crosses 550 million watch hours in five weeks

JioStar’s four South Indian editions of Bigg Boss have crossed 550 million watch hours in their first five weeks. That makes this the biggest launch in the franchise’s history across Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.

The record wasn’t simply a matter of one strong market carrying the others. For the first time, all four versions premiered on the same day, and overall watch time rose 20 percent year-on-year.

Why the same-day launch worked

Putting four language editions on air together turned the season into a shared South Indian television event. Each show kept its own host, channel and regional flavour, but the common premiere date helped build a bigger opening conversation.

The viewing habit is also changing. JioStar says six in 10 viewers are engaging with the 24×7 live feed, not just the daily episodes. That means fans are following relationships, fights and tasks inside the house throughout the day on JioHotstar.

“Crossing half a billion watch hours in five weeks was an important milestone,” said Krishnan Kutty, Head – Entertainment Business, South Cluster, JioStar.

He added that the time audiences spend with both daily episodes and the live feed was equally encouraging, and that rising Connected TV consumption pointed to changing audience behaviour.

The advertisers are following

The viewership has converted into advertiser interest. More than 75 brands have signed on across the four editions, taking over 120 sponsorships. More than half of those brands are first-time advertisers, and local advertisers account for roughly 30 percent of total advertising spends.

The brand list spans automobiles, consumer electronics, personal care, food and beverages, financial services, healthcare, retail, real estate and home improvement. Names include Maruti Suzuki, Asian Paints, Britannia Nutri Choice, Haier, Amazon, Colgate, Head & Shoulders, Uber, Sprite, Nivea Soft Gel, TTK Prestige, Kajaria Ceramics, Star Health Insurance, Hero Xoom and Centuary Mattress, alongside regional businesses.

A pre-show that built the buzz

Audience participation began before the main editions through Bigg Boss Agnipariksha, the franchise’s first integrated digital pre-show across all four South Indian markets. It gave aspiring contestants a route to compete for a place inside the house and helped build anticipation.

The pre-show ran under region-specific names: Agnipariksha in Telugu, Agniparikshe in Kannada, Agnipareeksha in Malayalam, and The Common Man in Tamil.

  • Bigg Boss Tamil, hosted by Vijay Sethupathi, airs on Star Vijay.
  • Bigg Boss Telugu, hosted by Nagarjuna, airs on Star Maa.
  • Bigg Boss Kannada, hosted by Kichha Sudeepa, airs on Colors Kannada.
  • Bigg Boss Malayalam, hosted by Mohanlal, airs on Asianet.

Episodes and live feeds stream on JioHotstar, which makes it easy for viewers who miss the TV telecast to stay current.

The five-week number tells a broader story: regional programming, continuous digital engagement and advertiser participation are working together across four distinct language markets. For fans, the live feed is now as much a part of the ritual as the primetime episode.
