”Indian Idol is one of the reality show which remains in the limelight every season. And this time too, it grabbed attention but for the wrong reason. It all happened when the Indian Idol 12 Kishore Kumar special episode was telecasted on TV’s singing reality show. The contestants and the judges paid tribute to the legendary singer and actor Kishore Kumar. They sang 100 songs of the late singer over the two episodes spread across Saturday and Sunday. The makers also invited his son and singer-composer Amit Kumar as a special guest. For those unaware, Kishore Kumar happens to be one of the most popular singers of the industry and has given the industry some of the iconic numbers like Roop Tera Mastana, and Rim Zhim gire sawan, Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhaagi Si and many more.
However, the episode did not go down well with the viewers, they were upset with the quality of the episode. Social media was filled with trolls not just for the judges but also the contestants. Many complained that the contestants and the judges of the show, Neha Kakkar, Himesh Reshammiya, and Anu Malik, terribly ruined Kishore Kumar’s songs. On Monday, a Twitter user shared he felt Anu Malik and Neha Kakkar sang Kishore Kumar’s awfully. He tweeted, “#IndianIdol2021 #indianidol #SonyLIV please spare Kishore Kumar’s songs.. this is a worst singing I’ve ever witnessed of Kishore’s songs.. all my favorite songs are screwed by @iAmNehaKakkar @The_AnuMalik and all participants.” Another user wrote, “Neha Kakkar do whatever you want to do with your songs. please don’t even think to spoil Kishore Kumar Sir’s songs #IndianIdol #100SongsOfKishoreKumar.” When asked about Kakkar and Reshammiya’s poor singing, Amit Kumar remained evasive.
However, now singer’s son Amit Kumar has opened up about the same in an interview and said that he is ‘aware of the outrage’ which is going on. Amit Kumar, the son of the legendary singer also agreed with the netizens and said that he too didn’t enjoy the episode. Amit Kumar said that he wanted to stop the episodes midway. Like the viewers, he too didn’t enjoy how the creators of the show decided to pay tribute to his father. As per Amit Kumar, he was asked to praise every contestant irrespective of how they perform. “I did what I was told, I thought it will be a homage to my father. But once there, I just followed what I was asked to do. I had told them to give me portions of the script in advance, but nothing of that sort happened,”
Spilling beans on his reasons to agree upon appearing on the show, he told the portal, “Look, everyone needs money. My father was also particular about money. They gave me the price I demanded and I went, why would I have left it? But it’s okay. I have full respect for the show and its judges and participants. It’s just one of those things that happen sometimes.”
