Arushi Nishank Promotes circular economy in United Nations

Arushi Nishank, Actor, Filmmaker, & Social Activist was Speaking at the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland today. Session was organised by UNEP in International Environment House, Geneva. She said circular economy can promote a more sustainable and resilient economy for any country.

Speaking at the panel at the prestigious world forum of United Nations Environment Program she spoke about her commitment towards the climate change, women empowerment and sustainability which she is achieving through her NGO Sparsh Ganga. She said when we talk about circular economy, we talk about two things. Firstly, that we have limited resources and secondly how the economy can be developed, when we are talking about the environment. For the same we have started making incense sticks from waste flowers from River Ganga and this has given employment to hundred’s of women in my home state of Uttarakhand. For avoiding the use of plastic or rubber we have started making jute bags which is again giving employment to many people which hence creates awareness program itself.

It encourages the development of new business models, technologies, and processes to support the circular transition. She said by implementing circular principles, specially in Himalayan regions can effectively reduce its environmental footprint, promote economic growth, and enhance the well-being of its local communities.

Hill states in India faces significant challenges with waste generation, particularly from tourism and remote areas. Implementing circular economy principles can help manage waste effectively. As Tourism is a major source of income for many Himalayan communities. Circular economy principles can encourage responsible tourism practices, reduce waste, and promote eco-tourism initiatives.
