When Barun Sobti spoke about his Iss Pyaar Ko audition

Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon was an iconic show and the best rom-com show on India TV. It has been 10 years since the show went on air but you can easily watch it now. No matter how many times you rewatch, you get completely hooked on to it. One of the highlights of the show is Arnav Singh Raizada aka Barun Sobti. The actor infused life in his character and even 10 years later you can truly enjoy IPKKND. No wonder, fans keep asking for another season. They also are rooting for Sanaya and Barun to recreate the magic that they did a decade ago.

Barun Sobti is an actor par excellence. Over the course of time, he has only associated in select projects that have excited him. While he was unable to make a mark in Bollywood but in the TV and OTT space he is an undisputed king. In March 2020, he wowed the audience with his performance in Asur. People are also looking forward to the season 2 of Asur. While we hope that another season of Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon happens, even if it is to take us make us nostalgic, we recollect five things about Barun’s auditions and how he became the park of IPKKND.

Barun Sobti’s first audition

Born in Delhi, the actor gave his first audition from the capital and not the Mayanagri. In one of his interviews, Barun recalled that as per him it was terrible. He was expected to give the audition in front of a white background and as he did not have a white wall, he made a makeshift arrangement using a white bed sheet. For this audition, his father was his cameraman. He also mentions that he still has that audition tape and how it makes him go ROFL every time he rewatches it.

Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon Auditions

Coming over to his audition for IPKKND, in a live session with Barun Sobti and Sanaya Irani had revealed that at the time of the audition she thought that he was high. In the same chat even Barun divulged that he felt out of place as it was happening in a hall where there was another shoot happening.

Gul Khan who was the producer of the show also added that she felt that he was either drunk or high or both. She said, “I thought you were high. He had this messy hair and beard that wasn’t trimmed for I guess months. And, I could never make out what he was saying. Someone briefed him and he was saying the dialogue in a very slurry way so I was thinking is he drunk or is he high or is he both?”

Even Sanaya Irani felt that Barun was high. She even mentioned that at that time, she did not know that he had been working in a call centre and the American ascent made her feel that he has just returned from abroad.

Sanaya too had a crazy bad audition. Having returned to India after a long stay in US, she had forgotten to speak in Hindi. Also, as she was raised in South Mumbai, getting the dialect of Khushi Kumari Gupta was not easy. However, she requested for another go and killed it at that.

Guess who else auditioned for the roles?

Another fun fact was that Mohit Sehgal, was also zeroed in for the role for ASR. Sanaya’s was dating Mohit at that time and they are both married now. While Mohit is a great actor but we are so happy that the stars aligned for Barun and Sanaya. We are happy that everything fell just right in place for Is Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon. And it became the show that we cherish even 10 years later.
