Reporting Live Review: Parineeti Chopra's Thriller Earns 3 Stars

Netflix’s Reporting Live puts Parineeti Chopra in the middle of a newsroom story that becomes a crime conspiracy, and the review is in: it’s a 3-star thriller that works in parts. For Indian OTT viewers who like a journalist chasing a dangerous story, this one is watchable, but it doesn’t rewrite the playbook.

From a bridge collapse to a sand-mining racket

Set in the fictional town of Visargapn, Reporting Live follows rookie reporter Sandhya Yadav (Parineeti Chopra) and her reluctant cameraman Vinod Sharma (Deven Bhojani). They get their big story when a bridge collapses and a bus falls into the river, with children on board. That tragedy is not an accident; it opens the door to an illegal sand-mining operation run by a powerful mafia.

As Sandhya and Vinod push further into the story, the danger rises, and the film uses that tension to drive the plot.

Where the thriller lands

Director Dhruv Tripathi’s handling is one of the film’s strengths. The review notes that he doesn’t stretch the runtime and treats the issue of illegal mining with care. The weak link is the screenplay: it never becomes extraordinary, and the twists don’t land with enough force.

  • What works: A timely sand-mining angle, tight direction, and a strong ensemble cast.
  • What doesn’t: The familiar story structure and emotional beats that don’t quite resonate.
  • The verdict: A good one-time watch for newsroom thriller fans, not a cinematic masterpiece.

The cast does the heavy lifting

Parineeti Chopra, last seen as a victimised mother in Shaque, slips into the journalist role with conviction. Deven Bhojani is a surprise as the cameraman, bringing both support and lightness. Amol Palekar’s Shiva Kaka is sincere, Adil Hussain impresses, and the supporting actors—Shekhar Suman, Saswata Chatterjee, Pitobash Tripathy and Sameer Kocchar—help keep the film from sinking.

Why this review matters for OTT fans

For an audience that has seen plenty of journalists-turned-detectives on OTT, a film like this lives or dies by its texture. Reporting Live gets the texture partly right—there is mafia danger, a small-town setting and a crime angle that feels current—but the review says it doesn’t find the emotional weight that makes a thriller unforgettable.

Should you press play?

If you’re in the mood for a newsroom crime story, Reporting Live is worth streaming once. Just don’t expect a fresh plot or huge emotional payoffs. As IWMBuzz puts it, the film is not a masterpiece but is “worth watching at least once.”
