Bharti Singh has been charged for making a Daadhi Mooch joke at the Adampur police station in Jalandhar.
Bharti Singh, the popular television personality, has once again found herself in hot water. In a startling turn of events, the comedian has been charged with injuring the Sikh community by making a joke about moustaches and beards in an old video.
At Jalandhar’s Adampur police station, a FIR has been filed against the comedian. The case was opened when Ravidas Tiger Force head Jassi Tallan filed a complaint.
According to recent reports, Bharti Singh was accused of ridiculing Sikhs in an old video by displaying their moustaches and beards. According to ETimes, she has been accused under Section 295-A of the Indian Penal Code (deliberate and intentional conduct meant to offend religious sentiments).
The comedian recently responded to the criticism she received for her joking with pal Jasmin Bhasin about ‘daadi mooch’ (beard and moustache). Bharti apologised for the popular video on her social media account, saying that her intentions were not to offend anyone’s religious beliefs.
Bharti said in an old viral video that drinking milk while wearing a beard tastes like sewaiyan. She also mentions males who have lice in their beards. The film, which also stars Jasmin Bhasin, has gone viral on the internet, angering the Sikh community by mocking beards and moustaches.
Bharti Singh had previously released a video on May 16 to stress that her intentions were not to harm her. She asked that the public not judge her.
Bharti apologised in the video and stated, “I was doing comedy with my friend but if it has hurt the sentiments of any section, I apologise with folded hands. I am a Punjabi myself, I was born in Amritsar and I’d always respect it. I am a proud Punjabi, too.”
