Break Point, is 7-episode series that traces the amazing journey of two Indian tennis players. It is about the rapid rise to the surprising split of Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi. The partnership to breakup story is co-directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari and Nitesh Tiwari. The documentary series Break Point was released on Zee5 last week.
Mayank Shekhar said in Namaste Bharat that the Break Point series is incomparable. Because this one is a story of two legends and their tiff during tournaments. The series starring Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi are produced by Earthsky Pictures.
In one scene, Leander and Mahesh revealed how their partnership ended due to mistrust of one another. After winning the 1999 French Open Men’s Doubles title, Leander and Bhupathi grew apart. This was primarily due to ego issues and misunderstandings.
Leander said, “It was hard for me, 1999. I was at a very fragile stage in my life with my tennis partnership, with my relationship. And I was being told rumors about Mahesh being close to her, very close to her.”
Whereas Mahesh said, “I looked at him and I said, ‘Leander are you being serious? Do you actually believe in your heart that I would do something like that?’ He said yes. I said, ‘Then this is a lot more broken than I thought it was. And that was the end of French Open discussion.”
Thereafter, due to the rift between them, Leander and Mahesh chose different partners to play the French Open next year. However, their coaches were unhappy about this situation.
Therefore, Leander’s coach locked them up in a massage room. He advised them to sort out their differences, something they also wanted. Mahesh asked Leander to tell him the issues but he got up and he stormed out of the room. He didn’t even answer the question.”
