The resumption of film releases in theatres earlier this year was targeted at avoiding video streaming platforms for direct digital premieres of films. As per Trade analysts digital platform has emerged stronger than ever before during the pandemic. It is unlikely to go away despite theatre owners urging film-makers to release films for big screens only.
The film makers feel feel that theatre releases are necessary for the recovery of the industry. However, producers may not be willing to spend on publicity of a film when a streaming platform is ready to generate remarkable profits with no distribution or marketing costs. Additionally, with most cinemas shut indefinitely, producers are left with no other choice than to take the streaming services route for finished films.
